Startup Summer offers incoming students who are curious about entrepreneurship the opportunity to work for a Booth-led start-up during the summer before they begin their MBA program. Last year, students interned at companies such as Daybird in Chicago, elphi in Boston, Taina Technology in London, Peasy in Singapore, PayHop in Brazil, A’govest in Mexico City, and more. Students must have legal work authorizations for the country in which the start-up is based. The Deans’ Office at Chicago Booth provides participating students with a stipend.

Startup Summer internships last seven weeks, starting in late June 2024 running through mid-August 2024 (exact start and end dates will be at the discretion of the start-up). Startups are generally located in the U.S. with some international options. Internship activities could range from constructing financial models to validating customer needs to helping prepare fundraising materials. All roles are intended for someone who is about to begin their Booth MBA.

For alumni startups interested in hosting an intern, we are delighted you are interested in hiring Booth talent, and we recognize that giving a student a productive summer experience requires a significant amount of work on your part. Thank you for providing that service to the school. We are pleased to help support our interns financially, with matching funds from Chicago Booth, for a maximum of three years. We hope that that this funding will enable you to consider having our students intern with you with fewer financial constraints.

  • Exploration: Refine and test your interest in a start-up environment and learn about a new role or industry. Is this the kind of environment you could thrive in long term?
  • Mentorship: Work with founders who have studied at Booth and who are interested in your professional development.
  • Early Access: Connect with the Polsky Center and Booth’s Network of alumni before orientation.
  • Funding: Booth provides a stipend to cover living expenses to all Startup Summer interns.

Applications for Startup Summer will open in GTS on March 11, 2024.
