Joann Chen, AB ’08

Joann Chen has spent her career at the intersection of business, finance, and social impact, having helped launch and grow multiple impact investment funds. She is currently senior advisor to Employment Technology Fund (ETF@JFFLabs), the only fund in the US focused specifically on technology solutions that help underserved workers advance economically. 

Before joining ETF@JFFLabs, she was a partner at Equal Opportunity Ventures, investing in early-stage entrepreneurs seeking to address economic and racial inequity. She was previously a member of the founding investment team at Bain Capital Double Impact, the first impact investment fund launched by a leading global investment firm. 

Earlier in her career, she served as investment officer at ImpactAssets, helping grow an impact-focused donor advised fund that now has over $1 billion under management. Chen was the founding program director of Spark Ventures, where she helped launch businesses in emerging markets to fund social programs. Chen started her career at the Cambridge Group, a management consulting firm advising Fortune 500 companies in growth strategy.

Chen holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Chicago and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
