Edward L. Kaplan, ’71
Chairman, President, and CEO, Zebra Technologies
Edward L. Kaplan, president, CEO, and director of Zebra Technologies Corporation, earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1965 and his MBA from Chicago Booth in 1971. In 1969, Kaplan founded Data Specialties, Incorporated (now Zebra Technologies). Prior to founding his company, he worked as an engineer for Teletype Corporation and Seeburg Corporation.
Kaplan has served on the Council on Chicago Booth and the board of trustees of Illinois Institute of Technology. His honors include the Illinois High-Tech Entrepreneur Award and the Illinois Entrepreneur of the Year in the high-technology category.
