David B. Wells, MBA ’98, MPP ’98

David Wells has focused the last 20+ years on helping consumer businesses grow and has recently shifted toward helping younger companies and NGOs and nonprofits with a focus on economic growth in the developing world.

He spent nearly 15 years at Netflix as CFO and as vice president of financial planning and analysis before retiring in early 2019.  Prior to Netflix, Wells served in progressive roles at Deloitte Consulting for six years and in the nonprofit world.  

Wells is a current corporate director for three companies: public ad tech company The Trade Desk, private fintech Wise.com, and public direct-to-consumer healthcare company HIMS.  He also works with a number of nonprofits in the economic development and mental health space and serves on the board of Innovations for Poverty Action, the Silicon Valley Chapter of American Red Cross, and is a member of the Harris Council for the University of Chicago and Jefferson Trust for the University of Virginia.

Wells holds a joint MBA/MPP magna cum laude from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Virginia.

He loves spending time with his wife and 13-year-old daughter doing anything outside.
