Alec Litowitz is the Founder and former CEO of Magnetar Capital, a leading alternative asset management firm. Alec remains significantly invested in Magnetar’s success, both as an owner and investor in its funds.

Alec currently serves as the Founder and Managing Director of Reimagined Ventures. Reimagined Ventures is a sophisticated single-family office with expertise in venture capital, real estate, hospitality, business growth and development, and a passion for working alongside the best and brightest minds leading the global change in disruptive innovation across a variety of industries, sectors, and geographies.

Litowitz began his financial services career in corporate finance at JP Morgan in New York focusing on the Financial Institutions Group. Prior to founding Magnetar in 2005, he was one of four original partners at Citadel Investment Group where he served as Global Head of Equities and a member of the Management and Investment Committees.

In 2011, he founded Magnetar Academy and set off on a mission to improve high school students’ access to financial education. In 2016, the Academy joined forces with UChicago STEM Education to create the Magnetar Capital UChicago Financial Education Initiative, releasing its best-in-class financial education curriculum, finEDge, three years later. To date, this work has educated more than 33,000 students through over 1,500 classes.

As an athlete and avid outdoorsman, Litowitz enjoys endurance and adventure races including triathlons and off-road mountain bike competitions. He has competed in many races, including the Perskindol Swiss Epic mountain bike race, La Ruta de Los Conquistadores mountain bike race in Costa Rica, and the Hawaii Ironman. His interest in competitive sports led him to support the growth of Dare2tri, a nationally focused non-profit that provides triathlon and single-event training to young people and adults with disabilities, where he serves as Board Chair Emeritus.

Litowitz graduated from MIT with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Anthropology and went on to receive a JD and MBA from the University of Chicago. While at MIT, Litowitz became the first All-American squash player in the school’s history.
