Application Deadline: Polsky Science and Technology Associates

The Polsky Science and Technology Associates Program will participate in many aspects of the technology commercialization process, with a focus on screening new invention disclosures and evaluating the commercial landscape. Working with the PST team provides valuable technology management experience from scientific, legal, and business perspectives along with exposure to some of University of Chicago’s most exciting technologies.

This position supports PST managers in evaluating and marketing novel technologies, translating ideas and discoveries into products, services, and ventures. It also supports the commercialization process related to identification, investigation, and negotiation of licensing opportunities for permission to use intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, and tangible materials.

Polsky Science and Technology Associates will work side-by-side with Polsky team members, and Associates commit to dedicating 10 hours per week, for this year-long opportunity.

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Perform literature and related art searches for new technologies disclosed to PST.
  2. Perform preliminary market and industry analysis for the applications of new technologies.
  3. Conduct thorough market research of emerging technologies including market potential, size, competition, and trends.
  4. Develop and present technology screening reports that include suggestions on protection and commercialization strategy based on art and market assessment.
  5. Work with PST managers to develop marketing materials to attract licensees or commercial partners, and generate licensing leads for technologies.
  6. Create lists of potential licensees and their contact information.
  7. Perform other related work as needed.

 

Minimum Qualification

Education: 

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in biological or physical sciences fields.

Other Qualifications:

PhD candidate who has passed the qualifying exam.

Obtain approval from PhD advisor and department to work in this position.
