Acclaimed Vintage Boutique Recycled Modern, a Polsky Alum, Expands With New Shop in Hyde Park’s Harper Court
Recycled Modern, an alumnus of the Polsky Center’s Small Business Growth Program, is bringing its art, home décor, and lifestyle boutique to Hyde Park’s Harper Court, fulfilling its owner’s longtime goal of opening a shop on Chicago’s South Side.
Owner Shari Currie, who lives in neighboring Kenwood, is opening Recycled Modern’s second location on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 5231 S. Harper Court. Its first location, which opened in 2018 in Lincoln Park, was named by Apartment Therapy as the best the vintage shop in Illinois.
“I always wanted to have a business presence on the South Side, and it feels great to achieve this goal,” said Currie, who focuses on showcasing Black creatives. “There’s so much going on in Hyde Park, and I can’t wait for Recycled Modern to become a destination for vintage and handcrafted home decor, art, and unique lifestyle goods.”
Currie this past winter participated in the 10-week Small Business Growth Program, which pairs local entrepreneurs with teams of trained UChicago and Booth students to create a growth strategy for their businesses. The program recently relaunched as a 30-week program to help businesses implement the recommendations, with the aim of achieving meaningful growth that drives job creation and economic development in their communities.
