fintech, insurtech, and regtech are important and evolving fields where Chicago Booth and the University of Chicago see both incredible opportunity and huge challenges in the coming years. While Chicago Booth and UChicago have been leaders in finance for decades, continued thought leadership, focused programming, and entrepreneurial support will be necessary in the coming years to help students, alumni, and larger communities realize the potential for innovation inherent in this wave of technology and restructuring.

The Polsky Center is serving as a coordinating body for cross-campus activities to support fintech, insurtech and regtech companies. Polsky approaches this vertical utilizing the many existing strengths amongst our alumni community, which includes 2007 Edward L. Kaplan, ’71, New Venture Challenge Winner, Braintree among others.

Because of the generous support of the Polsky FinTech Council, the Polsky Center is able to support FinTech, InsurTech, and RegTech companies with specialized educational, training, and mentoring opportunities throughout the year. A sample of recent FinTech teams supported include TAINA Technologies, VestHQ, Lotic Labs, and CommonCents. Additionally, the Polsky Center is a conduit for integration into the wider community working to support FinTech, InsurTech, and RegTech through relevant industry partnerships and intra-university collaborations in Chicago and globally.

The Polsky Center is a thought leader and producer of original research on the emerging FinTech, InsurTech, and RegTech industries. The 2017 Americas Alternative Finance Industry Report was produced jointly by the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. As the largest survey of companies emerging in alternative finance in North and South America, the Americas Alternative Finance Industry Report helps to benchmark this important and quickly evolving field.
