Every business interacts with data. Sales forecasting, customer information, marketing, inventory control, and much more stat with data. In order to take advantage of your business’ information, we need to understand how all of these data fit together. We’ll introduce you to the basics of data organization, industry terms data experts like to throw around, and techniques to help your keep your data secure. We’ll have a few hands-on activities to get you comfortable with managing your data.

About the instructors //
Tom Kompare, is a web applications developer at University of Chicago’s Information Technology Services division. He writes the code that makes things happen after you hit the submit button on a web page. Tom has worn many hats in his 25 year IT career: network design and security, system administration, database design and administration, web application design and development, API design and development, user experience research, web interface design and development, data visualization, project management, and employee relations and management.

Arjun Lagisetty is a data architect/engineer at University of Chicago’s Information Technology Services division and a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in building data and analytics applications. As a lead architect at a data integration practice of boutique consulting firm, he and architected and built data applications for Fortune 500 companies and public sector agencies.
