Escaping Mom & Pop: Founder’s Story with Stephanie Hart, Brown Sugar Bakery

Stephanie Hart founded Brown Sugar Bakery in 2004 and has since built a devoted following that extended well beyond its Greater Grand Crossing location on 75th St. Her goal is to grow from a small business to something with nationwide impact, which means navigating new challenges, such as a larger staff, new types of required insurance, and becoming classified as a manufacturer instead of a retailer. She speaks of these changes as getting “new shoes”, which is both fun and challenging–and that was before COVID-19 and protests across the country. Join us to hear the story of Brown Sugar Bakery’s founding and growth and the myriad of lessons learned along the way.
