Entrepreneurship Essentials (E2): Mental Health for Entrepreneurs

“Climbing Mt. Everest was the second hardest thing I’ve ever done. The second nearest I’ve ever felt to dying. The first is being an entrepreneur.” – Erik Severinghaus

While the entrepreneurial industry takes advantage of the natural optimism of entrepreneurs, the truth is far more ominous. The entrepreneurial community faces three times the rate of substance abuse and twice the rate of suicide as the general population. The books, movies, and conferences on entrepreneurship amplify only the voices of the successful minority. After over five years of research, Erik Severinghaus has written the book that he desperately needed in his darkest entrepreneurial moments. Scale Your Everest: How To Be a Resilient Entrepreneur is a guidebook meant to help entrepreneurs navigate the dizzying heights of entrepreneurship. In this workshop, Erik will relate his experience climbing Mt. Everest to his own entrepreneurial journey. He’ll discuss the stages of the journey, paying particular attention to Imposter Syndrome, a phase of extreme doubt that Erik refers to as the Death Zone. Finally, he will highlight some of the effects of entrepreneurship and how to manage those symptoms by practicing certain wellness techniques.
