As president and CEO of the Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI), Angie Kim has a finger on the pulse of how support for arts and innovation is changing in America. Arguing that how we support creativity in America has implications for the entire nation, Kim will talk about CCI’s values-based endeavor to increasingly prioritize support for individuals as opposed to focusing only on institutions. This effort to better meet artists “where they are” is reflected in CCI’s support of creative social entrepreneurs and investment in artists’ social and political efforts beyond the studio “box”. Kim will also touch on trends that she is seeing in CCI’s current national scan of systems disruptions that hold promise for changing conditions of artists and all those who, like them, are affected by job precarity, limited or no benefits, expensive debt, and lack of collateral to compete for business loans. Asking whether the vitality of the arts’ future rests with individual artists and not institutions, Kim will speak to the tension echoed throughout the creative and adjacent sectors as the nation shifts from full-time employment to gig economics.  Kim will be joined by Tracie D. Hall, Director of the Joyce Foundation’s Culture Program and a CCI board member.
