SUMMARY:Clean Energy Transition: Is it Inevitable?
DESCRIPTION:The clean energy transition is often described as unstoppable — driven by falling costs\, improving technology\, and market momentum that no policy shift can reverse. But is that confidence warranted? Or does the pace and shape of the transition still hinge on decisions being made right now? \nJoin us for a conversation with two leaders who have spent decades building the industry from the inside.\nThis event is for Chicago Booth MBA and MiM/MiF students only. \nTom Starrs is VP of Government and Public Affairs at EDP Renewables North America and chair of the Solar Energy Industries Association board. Across more than 25 years in solar and renewables\, he has held senior market strategy and policy roles at SunPower\, Iberdrola Renewables\, and Schott Solar\, and earned a PhD and JD from UC Berkeley. \nJulie Blunden is an obvious champion at Obvious Ventures and a Stanford GSB MBA with more than 35 years of experience commercializing companies that reshape energy markets. She was most recently COO of Plus Power\, which she helped grow into an operating independent power producer with nine plants and over $2 billion in financing\, and previously CCO of EVgo\, with leadership roles at SunPower and Green Mountain Energy. \nJulie and Tom will each open with brief framing remarks\, then the bulk of the session is open discussion. Expect candid talk about where capital is actually flowing\, which business models hold up under policy uncertainty\, and how they’ve made career bets in a sector that keeps reinventing itself. \nCome with questions and ready to discuss.

SUMMARY:Business Acumen: Show Up and Stand Out – Networking\, Referrals\, and Community
DESCRIPTION:Relationships drive revenue\, but most small business owners network reactively\, showing up when they need something rather than building the kind of consistent visibility that generates referrals and opens doors over time. \nThis session helps members develop an intentional networking strategy and build referral pipelines that work without feeling transactional. The speakers will address how AI is changing the networking landscape\, from AI-assisted LinkedIn outreach and follow-up systems to tools that help members track relationships and stay top of mind with the right people. \nLearning outcomes: \n\nDefine your networking strategy: who you need to know\, where they are\, and how to get in front of them\nBuild a simple referral system that generates consistent introductions from your existing network\nLeave with a 90-day visibility plan and at least three warm connections made in the room

SUMMARY:What Energy Needs Next: Opportunities In Energy Transition
DESCRIPTION:The energy transition is one of the largest capital reallocations in modern history — and it needs people. Founders to build the companies\, investors to fund them\, and operators to scale what works. The question is where the real openings are right now. \nJoin us for a conversation with three leaders working on the transition from very different vantage points: an entrepreneur building a new company\, an investor deciding where capital goes\, and an industry executive operating at scale. Each will share their read on which problems are solvable today\, which are still waiting on technology or policy\, and where the talent gaps are widest. \nCome if you’re exploring a career in energy\, sitting on a venture idea\, or simply curious about what the transition actually looks like from the inside. No background in energy required\, just bring your questions.
